School Attorney
Questar III BOCES is currently seeking a dynamic individual to fill the administrative position of School Attorney. The School Attorney is a member of the Questar III BOCES executive team and will provide general legal counsel and services to the Questar III District Superintendent, administration and staff. The successful candidate will represent our core values of Commitment to Leadership and Service, Commitment to Innovation, and Commitment to Excellence; have outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills as well as the leadership qualities necessary to support a large and diverse organization. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing day-to-day guidance on all legal matters to the District Superintendent and administrative staff, including but not limited to student issues, personnel matters, contracts, employee relations, grievances, data security, leases and business-related issues. Performs investigations and inquiries as needed.
- Assisting in the development of a variety of policies and procedures at Questar III.
- Participating in the bargaining process for Questar III and providing labor relations services for school districts on a request basis.
- Maintaining contact with Board Attorney and making referrals as appropriate.
- Serving as a resource for school districts on current issues and legislative actions.
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctorate degree from a nationally accredited law school AND five years of progressively responsible experience with complex legal issues, preferably in education law, civil service and labor / employment law, including two years of leadership and/or management experience with a proven record of results. Must be admitted to the Bar to practice law in New York State. Questar III BOCES will offer a competitive salary dependent on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
