Part-Time Technician, Bookstore
Part-Time Technician, Bookstore works closely with the Bookstore Staff to serve customers, pull required textbooks for students, assist in processing, and shipping of online orders, answering phone calls, lifting boxes, stocking books and merchandise, and other duties as assigned.
Examples of Duties
Perform general cashiering duties for the bookstore; operate a cash register and receive payment.
Greet and assist customers with purchases and provide information about products and procedures.
Assist with deliveries and counting merchandise.
Resolve problems related to shipments such as short, damaged and incorrect shipments, return of shipments.
Process and ship online orders.
Answer and return phone calls.
Perform opening and closing procedures, as needed.
Create and maintain a variety of records, reports and files.
Assist with inventory.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Working Conditions
Basic customer relations techniques and methods.
Basic principles of mathematics and accounting.
Procedures and practices involved with handling money, issuing receipts and balancing a cash drawer.
Basic principles and practice of purchasing and sales.
Advanced principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting.
Modern office practices, procedures and equipment including a computer.
Various computer software programs.
Online shipping sites such as UPS is a plus.
Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.
English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Provide friendly customer service and answer questions about products.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Respond tactfully and courteously with the public in answering student inquiries and referring complaints.
Work independently in the absence of supervision.
Perform varied clerical work.
Perform basic mathematical calculations quickly and accurately.
Operate and use modern office equipment including a computer.
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Interpret and apply administrative and departmental policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
Receive, unpack and shelf new shipments of books.
The employee should have the ability to effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve an office and classroom workspace.
The employee must maintain the office and teaching environments by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.
Physical and marginal functions require the ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following: standing, walking or sitting for extended periods, moderate lifting up to 50 pounds and carrying, general manual dexterity, operating assigned equipment, and extended exposure to computer screens.
The employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment, communicating with others, and handling varied tasks simultaneously.
Additionally, the employee must maintain mental capacity, which permits making sound decisions and using good judgment, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and personnel.
This is a part-time, 12-month position, which requires a varied schedule, averaging 20-25 hours a week. Bookstore hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00am – 6:00pm, and Friday 8:00am 12:00pm.
Local travel between the Caldwell campus, Watauga campus, or any off-campus sites may be needed.
Experience and Training
Minimum of one-year prior experience in customer service or retail operations required. Prior bookstore experience preferred.
Associate's degree, or current enrollment in a post-secondary program is required.
