Laurens Central School has an anticipated vacancy for a School Counselor As a School Counselor, your primary role is to provide essential support and guidance to students, fostering their academic, personal, and social development. You will work within the educational institution to create a safe and inclusive environment that promotes the overall well-being of students.
Key responsibilities include:
Individual Counseling: Conduct one-on-one sessions with students to address academic, emotional, and behavioral concerns. Assess and develop personalized plans to help students overcome challenges.
Group Counseling: Organize and facilitate group counseling sessions on various topics such as peer relationships, study skills, and career exploration.
Academic Advising: Assist students in course selection, academic goal setting, and college/career planning.
Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support and intervention in cases of emergencies or crises affecting students.
Collaboration: Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to create a supportive and effective learning environment. Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings when necessary.
Prevention Programs: Develop and implement programs to address issues like bullying, substance abuse, and mental health awareness.
Record Keeping: Maintain confidential student records and document counseling sessions.
Professional Development: Stay updated on counseling techniques, educational trends, and relevant regulations through ongoing training and development. Laurens Central School is seeking a certified school counselor to begin a probationary appointment ASAP. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with the other counselors to strengthen the counseling program and potentially work with students in grades K-12 based on experience and their areas of strength. NYS certification and NYSED fingerprint clearance required.
EOE
