Elementary Division (K-5) full time grade level teachers, art teacher, and substitute teacher Descriptions: Candidates for the full time grade level teacher positions (currently 4th and 5th grade) should be able to teach all academic subjects; this includes the Catholic religion. Previous teaching experience is preferred. Teachers perform yard duty during recess and offer after school tutoring. Candidates for the full time art teacher position should be passionate about engaging students in creating art, adept at designing learning experiences and projects in different art forms that are age appropriate, and able to collaborate with classroom teachers (when appropriate) to tie together art and academic subject instruction topics. Candidates for the full time substitute teacher position should be able to work with lesson plans and guidance provided by classroom teachers in cases of teacher absence, and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning. The full time substitute teacher will also complete other duties typically carried out by the absent teacher, including yard duty. An ideal candidate for each position should: Be adept in a wide variety of teaching modalities and ways of engaging students, including the use of instructional technology; Utilize positive and effective communication style; Be sensitive to varied student learning needs and creative in meeting them; Be able to take initiative; Be an example of best practices in classroom management; Be collaborative with colleagues in shaping the curriculum and meeting the needs of the students; Practice compassion and empathy, taking a holistic approach to our students' education; Demonstrates a clear vision for their class as a community of faith and learning; Operates out of a belief system that every student is capable and deserving of the teacher's highest efforts; Be outgoing and excited about being a role model and a mentor to our students; and Available to provide aftercare, after school tutoring or moderate an activity after school. St. Benedict's Prep is a 153-year-old Catholic school with a rigorous academic program.
