• SSHS Assistant Principal

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the Principal with the development of the educational program at the high school level with the consideration of the other grade levels to create an effective, coherent K-12 curriculum, working with applicable school teams and the Director of Teaching and Learning
  • Serves as an instructional leader for the high school. Be accountable and hold staff and students accountable for delivering on commitments and taking responsibility for outcomes   
  • Assists the principal with prioritizing budget allowances across the school system, monitoring purchases, and ensuring fidelity to curricular priorities.
  • Coordinates the efforts of teachers, parents and special team members in working with students in meeting individual needs.
  • Provides for an educational environment that permits and encourages creativity in the learning process. Uses data to assess student growth and school improvement.
  • Assists in supervision of classroom instruction to insure implementation of the district curriculum
  • Assists the principal with supervision and evaluation of staff. Ensures staff accountability to school-wide systems and expectations. 
  • Works cooperatively with the staff for the best interest of all students
  • Assists in providing building specific orientation and assists in the district orientation and training of teachers.
  • Provides continued coaching and input regarding performance expectations for staff including educational; practices, district curriculum standards, working with colleagues creating a positive work environment, works with teachers to improve instructional techniques, etc
  • Facilitates positive school-community relations by organizing, implementing, and participating in school and community activities both within and outside of the school day.
  • Handles in a cordial manner, complaints affecting the school, working toward resolution and reports to the Superintendent and HS Principal any matter of a serious nature, especially those matters not satisfactorily settled.
  • Responsible for all duties of  the high school management in the absence of the principal.
  • Works with and effectively communicate with all district administrators and directors; Collaborate with Alternative high school administrator
  • Remains current about changes and developments in the field of education.
  • Participates in the Leadership Team, Administrative Team and Curriculum and Instruction meetings
  • Divides the attendance and discipline responsibilities with other administrators as assigned by the principal.
  • Assists with supervision at the main entrance before/after school, and in the cafeteria, hallways, classrooms, restrooms, and locker rooms as assigned by the principal or as needed.
  • Shares responsibility of event coverage which includes evening and weekends as assigned by the principal
  • Works with the other building administrators to help form a cohesive team where we support, trust and help each other accomplish our respective duties, school goals and student success
  • Discusses and communicates with the High School principal new ideas and appropriate issues that will impact the school prior to implementation.
  • Communicates clearly with the other building administrators when assistance is needed in accomplishing any of the above responsibilities.
  • Assists with the general school organization and routine duties as they arise
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional decorum at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess or be eligible for a Colorado Type D Administrator Certificate or Administrator License.
  • Minimum of three years of successful experience as a teacher. Administrator or Dean experience preferred
  • Knowledge of school business and finance.
  • Experience in curriculum, instruction, and assessment best practices.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to discipline employees and students in keeping with school and district procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with parents and community.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Decision Making:  An example of a typical decision made by an individual in this position is to interpret policies/procedures and best practice.  An incorrect decision made by the Assistant Principal potentially results in substantial cost and/or damage to the credibility of the school and/or District.

Creativity, Innovation, and Initiative: The Assistant Principal will have the flexibility for creativity and innovation within the scope of their work so long as the work aligns to current school-wide systems. When the Assistant Principal sees an opportunity for improvement, he/she needs to feel empowered to take the initiative to propose changes. Waiting to be told what to do is not a characteristic of an Assistant Principal.

Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond professionally to questions from groups of parents, community members, commissions, colleagues and Board of Education.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, discounts, commissions, proportions, percentage, circumference, and volume.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to identify problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract concrete variables. Ability to analyze and use data to supervise the delivery of instruction and the school improvement process.

Technology Skills:  Proficient use of technology which includes: basic operations and concepts, word processing, spreadsheets, internet usage, critical evaluation of information, data analysis, email, and integration of technology.

Other Skills And Abilities:  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in education.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.  Ability to copy, coordinate, instruct, evaluate and negotiate.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to discipline students consistent with district procedures.  Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
