Position Title: Facility Safety Specialist

Duties to Include the Following:
- This is a technical position with responsibility for fire safety inspections, district environmental compliance, playground inspections and other duties as required. Responsible for reporting and inputting compliance data in varying agency databases. This position will work under general direction of, and report directly to, the Senior Architect, with independent judgement.
- Maintain district environmental compliance. Work closely with outside agency to manage the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act management plan. Schedule and review asbestos bulk sampling and coordinate asbestos inspections. Responsible to ensure cooling towers are inspected, cleaned and maintained per department of health regulations. Coordinate and review water inspections, service and water sampling test results. Develop and implement remediation protocol for water fixtures that test above the lead content action level. Coordinate and conduct indoor air quality investigations.
- Responsible for annual public school fire safety inspections. Maintain fire alarm communication between third party monitoring company and the local fire departments. Coordinate and perform fire and life safety inspections for insurance purposes. Responsible for ensuring code and fire safety requirements are met for musical and theater productions. Serves as liaison with three local Fire Departments.
- Inspect playgrounds annually for safety compliance. Document safety issues and write maintenance request for repairs found during inspection. Coordinate monthly playground inspections by building custodians and review findings. Perform playground equipment inspection following any student injury.
- Work with other departments to review accident and injury claims that occur in district facilities. Involvement as needed with capital projects. Work with departments on chemical labeling and proper disposal of chemicals. Other related duties as assigned.
- Coordinate recycling and removal of district lamps, district chemicals and rechargeable batteries.

Requirements:
- Associates degree in engineering technology, construction technology, industrial safety technology, fire safety technology occupational safety or related field or a high school diploma and three years’ experience in public health, industrial hygiene or building inspection. Position requires credentialing as a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) or the ability to take and pass the CPSI Certification Examination. A three-year Refresher Course and re-examination are required. Position also requires credentialing as an Asbestos Inspector licensed though the New York State Department of Labor or the ability to take and pass the examination. An annual Refresher Course and re-examination are required.
- Good knowledge of computers and related systems; organizational ability; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain working relationships; good judgement; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position; willingness to occasionally work second shift to accommodate specific tasks which can only be accomplished when there are no students in buildings.
All new employees must be fingerprinted and cleared for employment through the NYS Education Department before employment begins.
